What Does the Opposite of Hate Look Like?

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well.

Recently, I had the honor of participating in a national interfaith dialogue at the White House with some of the most senior faith leaders in the United States. Our Second Gentleman, Mr Doug Emhoff posed a crucial question: How can we rid ourselves of the hate in our communities? As the first Buddhist to participate in such a discussion, I emphasized that when we focus on a greater mission of love, we can find ways to come together. This mission requires trust, healing, and collaboration. If you are interested in the context of the discussion, you can see the top headline here.

The Buddhist view teaches us that our perception of the world is influenced by our thoughts. This ancient insight highlights how our polarization arises from our unconscious tendencies to judge and dislike those who oppose us. In the echo chamber of modern news, this polarization only intensifies.

Nikola Tesla once said, “When you understand that every opinion is a vision loaded with personal history, you will start to understand that all judgment is a confession.”
At Dharma College, our mission is to reimagine wisdom for modern times, especially for those who are spiritual but not religious.

Our teachings are designed to be practical, lived expressions of the finest qualities of the human condition. By cultivating these qualities as a community, we aim to be a true living example of the precious dharma. When we invest in ourselves, we also invest in our communities, families, state, and country.

We are excited to announce the launch of our Fall Term with two new 100-level courses designed to help you unlock the profound potential of being human. These courses offer practical tools and insights to navigate personal and professional challenges. The opposite of hate is a calling to recognize the great love within each of us. We must show up as living examples to combat hate through harmonizing body, speech, and mind.

Please consider joining one of the courses I’m offering in September:
