Course Summary

This weekly 45 minute session will offer the opportunity to release stress, drop out of the thinking mind and come to your senses. With movement, relaxation, and awareness, practices, we will invite the mind into the body. As Tarthang Rinpoche writes:

“…we have relied on the mind to direct the body, Kum Nye teaches us that the body can also help us relax the mind and stimulate its sensory capacities. The flow of feeling can relax the senses and open the heart…….. Relieved of constricting pressures the mind responds to deep flow of feeling and offers thoughts rich in meaning” (Joy of Being p. 114).

What is Kum Nye?

Kum Nye was introduced to the West by Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche as part of the Human Development programme in 1970’s as a way to help Western students relax and calm sufficiently to begin the path of meditation. Kum Nye is a gentle healing system that relieves stress, and transforms negative patterns. Kum Nye integrates the physical and psychological aspects of our experience and brings these energies together to function in a calm and balanced way.

The class will be primarily focused on Kum Nye and will include the possibly of other movement and dance resources. The primary aim of these sessions is to support participants in accessing the wholeness of embodied experience in everyday life. No previous experience of Kum Nye or dance is required.
