Transforming Stress

Tuesdays, January 17-February 21, 5:30-7pm,
Instructor: Abbe Blum

Abbe Blum

Most people today seem to live with stress as they try to cope with difficult situations and juggle many responsibilities. With new teachings by Tibetan Lama Tarthang Tulku as a guide, this course examines the role mind plays in creating and prolonging stress. Gentle exercises for body, mind and senses will be introduced that lighten the effects of stress and free our energy for more creativity and joy. NEW COURSE!

All students are welcome; no pre-requisites.

Path to Wholeness

Wednesdays, January 18-February 22, 10:30am-12pm
Instructor: Robin Caton

We continue the journey into understanding mind that was introduced in Revelations of Mind. New texts by Tarthang Tulku serve as additional guides on the path to wholeness, which, as the author reminds us, “is never wholly for ourselves. For real wholeness is always communicated to others, in spreading ripples of positive influence and deep appreciation.” Based on sections from “Dimensions of Mind” and “Keys of Knowledge,” this course is for those with experience in this transformative way of studying mind. NEW COURSE!

Pre-requisite: At least three prior courses at Dharma College, or consent of the Instructor.

How to Question Mind

Wednesdays, January 18-February 22, 5:30-7pm,
Instructor: Jack Petranker

Jack Petranker

Although we may be committed to growth and change, we automatically fall into patterns that limit our intelligence. Without meaning to, we cut ourselves off from the joy to be found in the simple, immediate moments that make up our lives. Dimensions of Mind gives us a beautifully crafted way to question more deeply and experience more fully. In this course, we continue to explore this rich and promising path. NEW COURSE!

Pre-requisite: “Dialogues with Mind” or consent of the instructor.

Choosing the Positive

Thursdays, January 26-March 2, 1:30-3pm, at Rossmoor, in Walnut Creek.
Instructor: Robin Caton

When things are going well, we find it easy to remain clear-minded and warm-hearted. But when things happen that we don’t like, we often lose our heads; when the people we encounter disturb us, we stop wishing them well. We see the unhappy results of this today as impatience and anger set the terms of discourse. What can be done? This course introduces a gentle path that is grounded in the way our minds naturally work. Based on Dimensions of Mind by Tibetan Buddhist Lama Tarthang Tulku, and accessible to all, this approach to working with the mind cultivates joy, compassion, love and peace, and opens the way for healing conflict in ourselves and the world. NEW COURSE!

All students are welcome; no pre-requisites.

Revealing Mind

Fridays, January 20-February 24, 10-11:30am,
Instructor: Richard Dixey

In this one-year course about mind, identity and the nature of reality, we study Revelations of Mind for the second, third or fourth time. Each reading takes us to a deeper level of understanding.
For continuing students only. Pre-requisite: Consent of the Director.

Confused Mind is Not my Friend

Friday, January 20-February 24, 10-11:30am
Instructor: Robin Caton

We present ourselves to the world as a single person operating from a single perspective, but inside a whole society is active. In this course, we look more closely at how mind creates confusion. Convinced that every thought is ‘me’ and that all presentations of mind are reliable, we don’t see the ways in which stale patterns of mind take us over. Are we reacting based on who we are now, or repeating the past? As we understand more, and work with simple practices for mind and senses, a new and fresher way of being arises.

All students are welcome; no pre-requisites.
